10/10, would recommend, if you enjoy narrative games. This game has turned into such a comfort game for me over the years. I played through it on PS4 initially and I had to experience it again on Steam. I love the design, the very real problems that Mae faces mentally with where she has found herself to be in life, and the little mystery that seems to seep out of the cracks in her hometown upon her return. Overall, a lovely experience that doesn't take long but has left a lasting impression on me.

Absolutely beautiful game, worth talking to every npc even the side ones, or the side side ones, or the ones u only talk to once. Getting it tattooed on my body forever soon.

Cute game. I am the target age of this game, but this game doesn't hit me like a lot of other people would have it hit. But still, characters are great, i will be doing both routes.

Night In the Woods, in short, is what real-life struggle looks like, except in the eyes of Mae. A dropped-out college student that struggles to find what's next in their life, wandering back into hometown that has changed since she left Possum Springs. Catching up old friends and exploring around the town is basically what the game is all about. What the game does great is storytelling and exploration, and that 2 thing carries literally the entire game if you asked me honestly. As the rest of the game literally is just parkour simulator, dialog simulator, all those boring stuff (Only credit I can give is that there are interactive elements that prevents the game from being stale, unlike I Wani Hug That Gator) The characters are pretty much what you would expect from old friend getting back in contact; having jobs, suffering depression, personal stuff, and the general adultery stuff. But of course, hobbies and fun times too, not all doom and gloom. Basically, this game is a reminder that time still moves on. Things change, but memory still lingers deep down your heart.

this game IS SO GOOD but like from a horror standpoint it is super frickin scary, in like a subtle, realistic way 1000000% recomend

One of my favorite narrative games of all time. I was a Kickstarter backer for this game and played it on PS4 originally. This game tells a beautiful story about a character whose flaws all feel real and natural. The writing in this game I've never experienced since, and don't think I ever will. Every part of this game shows that it was loved by those who made it. Playing this game is cozy, frightening and emotional. These characters hold a special place in my heart and I'd absolutely recommend anyone who enjoys silly goofy writing that switches to existential dread intermittently. Perfect for anyone who enjoys the small town mystery aesthetic.

Fucking love this game man, bought it on playstation during quarantine and i fell in love with the characters, the art, the story, the music, everything. it all feels like my hometown. if you want something emotional happy and also nostalgic, you need this game.

I play this every year around autumn, the most comfortable, warm and human experience, Mae is a painfully relatable yet funny protagonist, all of her blunders and struggles really connect to me as a fellow struggling mentally ill queer loser from a run-down nowhere town. its a beautiful pretty and simple game with a fun wacky story and a sprinkling of real gut-punch moments.

This game is one of my all time favorite games. Tells an incredible story about identity, loss/grief, and finding purpose. Every time you play this game, you can gain something new from it.

Haven't stopped thinking about this game since I first played it ages ago. A specific scene still makes me tear up just to think about. Also the music is banger.

i am not the largest fan of story games with little gameplay but i LOVED night in the woods. i love all the characters, especially mae, the cat you play as. there are little mini games throughout the story and yuh yuh yuh.

Night in the woods is by far one of the most emotional and memorable games I have played by far. The characters, the choices, every single bit of it feels realistic, and it almost drags you in throughout your entire play through. I would 110% recommend this game to anyone who was a good story, and more than some mindless distraction that most video games have turned into.

holy shit man. this whole game was beautiful . I loved the music, the visuals, the STORYLINE. It was really cool to play and the ending was ... something! I also absolutely loved the characters and all of their personalities.

First, this game gave my existential crisis. Then, it altered my brain chemistry. And, in the end, I relate to this game with every cell of my body. This game's story is a masterpiece, made by people who put all their soul and talent into it. It's simple yet so dense. I've played it back in 2019 and back then it seemed just like a good story about *someone* going through a difficult period of their life, but not it's 2025 and I could never imagine that I'd get myself into the same situation as the main protagonist did [spoiler] I've dropped out of college as Mae did because I didn't feel like it fit me. It wasn't good for my health. Everything just went numb and I started to see only 'shapes' [/spoiler] Speaking of the art style, Night in The Woods sure has it. Again, it is simple yet charming. Every character looks so alive considering they all made of basic shapes and flat colors.

I'll always recommend this game. It has stuck with me ever since it came out. There's a very deep story with a good hard look at mental health and the goings on of small towns. That and I'M A TOTAL TRASH MAMMAL WITH NIGHTMARE EYES. Your atoms are meaningless existence.

I've have bought NITW on xbox switch playstation and now Steam. I related to Mae a lot in 2017 even though I was a college graduate and she was a drop out. The game themes are so well written it's a game i come back to every couple years just to hang out with Bea, Gregg and Angus it's a game that's true art.

I know this game is very popular, but I just didn't connect with it in any way, surprisingly. The writing is not on any high level, the gameplay is slow and unsatisfying and the emotion is just not there. I liked the town and the vibe of a collapsing small town, but wish the story, writing and how you go through it were different.

I originally bought this game out of pettiness and jealousy for another person, It took me a while to finally boot it up and I was not disappointed. I also did not expect weird Autumn to hit so hard.

lovely beautiful wonderful visuals. soundtrack was so good it got added to the shower playlist. mae kinda pissed me off sometimes but i was rooting for her the whole time. because shes MY complex, flawed lowkey selfish kitty meow. also i <3 BEA

Peak story, peak art-style, this game is peak. I loved playing it, would recommend. Mae is soooo relatable this hit too close to home

“I want to hope again. And I want it to hurt. Because that means it meant something.” Despite hearing about this game when it was released in 2017, I just finished my first ever play-through a few nights ago! I went into this game completely blind, and oh boy, the story hit harder than I expected! I ended up relating to the characters far more than I expected, which was endearing to me. This is a side-scroller adventure game that focuses on loss, mental health, change, and uncertainty. PROS: > Amazing art style that subtly represents the main characters mental health issues! > Lovable characters! > The player has to be proactive and explore every nook and cranny to find out more about the story, which I greatly enjoyed! > A story that makes you think and reflect! CONS: > This game is more story-telling than game play, which some people may not enjoy. > Some topics may be triggering to players, so I recommend looking up a trigger list for this game before playing. > Ending of the game feels abrupt and will confuse players if they haven’t explored enough, which in reality isn’t the games fault. However, this abrupt ending suits the themes and plot of the story in and of itself. Overall, highly recommend this game if you’d like a heartfelt story! I felt I played it at a time in my life where I really needed it, and I cannot thank the devs enough for that.

i LOVED the story, i came in unspoiled and it was so suspenseful waiting for certain things to finally just happen. worth the buy. im not planning to replay it but that's not because i don't enjoy it enough TO replay it, it's because it left such a lasting impact on me because of how good the story was!! seriously recommend this title!!

I wish there were more indie games like NITW. I miss the days of my youth where most of the popular video games were related to my taste, and i refuse to accept the fact that people and trends tend to move forward. I will continue to act as if my "Good 'ol times" are the present and not the past, resulting in me not maturing as a person, and the only thing that can possibly change my mind is hanging out with my matured friends and accepting the present. ... wait.

Saved my life and that of many others. Knowing you're not alone in something makes it easier to keep going for a while. And often, "a while" is enough.
