The game is incredibly interesting and engaging, but it's truly frustrating how certain basic aspects are so poorly designed that it takes away the joy of returning to it. First of all, how is it possible that you can't pause the game when both players pause? Do you seriously think that's acceptable? Because of this nonsense, we lost a heavily upgraded ship that we had worked on for three full cycles in endless mode. Do you really think players will want to come back after that? Add to that the constant disconnections from sessions, causing players to lose progress and forcing them to fight the same boss 2–3 times. Or when you're playing with a ship that dies in one hit, and a glitched projectile hits instantly without giving you any chance to counter it. Developers, I’m begging you — this project is worth it. But only if the game becomes fair to its players.

This game was great until I successfully completed a run and then bought the DLC. Now it crashes every time... unplayable.

Took about 2 hours to beat the final boss in the main scenario, pretty fun game to play with a friend. If it’s priced at $5, I’d say it’s worth considering It’s a roguelike game with ship and ammo upgrades, plus trinkets for character enhancements. You’ll get stuff like bombs, freezing ammo, faster reload, extra HP, and more. Fun to play with a friend quick runs, good variety, and some satisfying power-ups.

Been having a blast playing this with my partner. Loads of permanent progression that don't feel TOO grindy + some meta progression tied to actual game progression. The further you go, the more permanent stuff you unlock and there's a lot of it for a while which is also nice. Keeps us coming back since every run so far has felt rewarding! Very rough on solo play tho. Highly recommend playing it with a friend but solo isn't impossible, just very overwhelming.

Awesome roguelite. Game play manages to avoid getting stale with new upgrades, build options, new ships and challenges. Bought it on sale for 12 bucks CAD but even at full price its still a great game. I would recommend this game at full price, but if you see it on sale its a no brainer.

If you’re looking for a chaotic, charming, and genuinely fun co-op experience, Ship of Fools is the treasure you've been missing. In a sea of roguelites, this game stands out not just because of its art style or quirky humor—but because it nails something a lot of games forget: pure, unfiltered co-op joy.

Love this game! It is so much fun! I do hope that one day they try to add 4 player-mode for extra chaos!

Fun couch coop game. Be aware though, I watched the trailer and was like "Ok cool, crabs; I can deal with crabs." First level, which you have to repeat every run, (Unless there is an Enter the Gungeon elevator mechanic I have not stumbled upon yet) is absolutely FULL OF SPIDERS. I only mention that cause I didn't see a single spider in the trailer and you literally have to fight spiders everytime... In case you were wondering. Other than that lots of COOP fun (which is hard to find now a days.)

My friend and I picked this up on sale, did about 5 runs last night. Pretty satisfied with the purchase. 8/10 Pros: Easy to play. Controls are simple wasd, with click to aim. Using the cannons and mounting/dismounting took a few runs to become reflexive, but now i got the handle on it and it's good. Run variety: Appears there's multiple builds that are viable, and multiple ways of playing it, with artifacts and trinkets impacting the way you play, and which character you use. Ship warfare: Due to enemeies coming from all 4 directions as well as on the deck, you need to be very aware and coordinate with your teammates to surivive. I've yet to try solo, but it seems to me 3-4 players is the ideal, 2, and finally 1. Art style: It's a chill vibe doesn't get ahead of itself but doesn't feel sloppy at all either. Good purchase. Con: Meta progression feels like it throttles experimentation. We dumped our points into a sentry cannon, and to experiment with the other types would require an investment. I wish the cannons were not able to be upgraded and instead came full power so that I could be encouraged to experiement. Plus, sentry just feels absolutely necessary in 2 player. When things heat up, you really cant beat the feature of auto aim and firing while you're clearing the deck of enemies. This is why i think 3-4 players is most optimum because you can keep the guns loaded and deck clear while having designated shooters. You simply don't have the luxury of staying off the guns with limited crew. At least, in my 3.5 hours that's my experience. Would recommend for any fans of couch co-op or roguelike alike

Great Co-op rogue-lite, I bought this game around a year ago. I was single and don’t have many friends who play VGS… It was fun but wasn’t too enjoyable, The game isn’t suitable for single players. It is possible to play it in single player mode but when I played it, it felt lacking. A year later- I have a boyfriend now, And he plays VGS \(^v^)/ !!! What a catch… We were looking at my steam library and after losing to him in Tekken consecutively 🥀I finally suggested we play ‘Ship of fools’. Needless to say, we've been playing every weekend since!! This game is so fun when played in Co-op. Here’s 3 things I find really good about this game: 1. It’s not a boring “easy to play, intended for normies” game ( ahem ahem, such as -“It takes two” WHO SAID THAT?? Not me (~v-) ). You actually need to plan ahead when playing it, and the more runs you play the harder the waves become (as long ad you keep upgrading your difficulty level to progress in the game). 2. Artsyle is giving Gravity Falls meets Spongebob vibes. Its cute, silly and overall charming ! + boss battle no 3 music is freaking awesome 3. As a rogue-lite, its not overwhelming like Hades (which is my current fave) and despite what I said in point 1- this game is a GREAT introduction to Rogue games! Its allowing newcomers to slowly ease up to higher difficulties, and due to its Co-op nature, Beginners can team up with Rogue genre veterans and enjoy the game without having prior experience with any rogue-like, this makes this game an great Co-op and introduction to VGS, whether it’s a parent introduction gaming to their kids or a boyfriend introducing gaming to his girlfriend and so on. Overall? Fun game! Great game when playing Co-op. 4/5 - art-style and music 5/5 - playability for newcomers 1.5/5 - Single-player 3/5 - Lore and story 3.2/5 - Level building and difficulty 3.8/5 - Fun factor
