This is a tough one, because I can see a very good game hidden in all this clunkiness and bad decisions.
+ Cool, unique concept: Dark Souls in a Pixar environment where you play as a crab? Sign me in!
+ Some good looking locations
+ Story takes an unexpected turn, I liked it
+ Last two levels are fun to play and feel natural to traverse, I didn't feel stuck or lost at all
+ A few good boss fights both visually and in terms of a fight pattern
+ Enough costumes and shell customization to choose from
+ Some cool abilities
+ OST is fine and does its job, no complains here
+ When everything works and you find your flow, it becomes fun and engaging
+ NG+ has new enemy spawns and item placement and a new first boss
+ There is a map that helps with traveling
+ Optimization is great, never had any problems with it
+ Small team of just 10+ people did this game, that's cool
+ Good checkpoints near boss fights, no need to run all the way
- Combat sucks. Everything (you, enemy, enemy attacks) has bigger hitbox to what you visually see so you'll get a lot of "how did that hit me?" situations
- Every input you do is delayed and very slow, you can't cancel your animations (this Dark Souls 1 era bs needs to go), almost every enemy attack animation is faster than any animation you do (so even if pressed heal earlier than the enemy does ANYTHING, there is a high chance you just die)
- Every input you press, you need to press TWICE for it to work. You need to wait for your animation to finish and only then press it. And it applies to heavy attacks/healing/abilities. Everything. Why?
- Heavy attack almost never works the first time you try to do it
- Targeting is the WORST in any similar game I've played. It stucks to the same enemy even if you cancel it and try to target again. Also it stays on dead enemies too
- Every elite enemy and boss has a) one red attack that one-shots you, b) one combo attack that one-shots you, c) one charged attack that one-shots you, d) one blue attack that two-shots you. Most of these attacks happen in under 2 seconds and some of them visually look the same to another normal attack. Some of them just continuously spam red attacks. Add to that hitbox problem and you get a boring loop of re-trying a fight. It doesn't feel rewarding to win, just tedious to get it over with
- Bosses read your inputs. And some of them you fight in an arena that is so small, that you have no way of healing yourself without getting hit instantly
- Fighting enemies on uneven ground is such a pain, they get stuck in textures, they can shoot through them, you get stuck in textures, you fall through the ground and die. Amazing
- Ranged enemies can go fuck themselves. Elite versions of them that you meet early on you literally can not beat, because they are never alone, their shots sometimes happen without the animation and even if you dodge it, THEY ARE STILL FOLLOWING YOU. There was one elite archer/sniper that had a village of crabs below him and an elite spear horse enemy close. I don't know how you suppose to get to him. Also their range is freaking ridicilous
- Shell swapping mechanic is tedious to do, I had to go full in Defense build to make it less painful
- Most enemies just swarm you and spam attacks, you can't do shit if fighting vs 3+ at the same time, and unfortunately sometimes game makes you do it anyway
- Most of locations are boring, empty and confusing even with a map and a compass to work with
- Platforming was meh, but I can see why some people found it bad
- Enemies block you, push you and move your body all the time, so fighting them in some locations ends with you falling off
- When you get knocked back by a skill/attack/whatever you get knocked out FAR and sometimes just die
- You have only one weapon. It doesn't feel like it changes when you upgrade it. No visual variations either. Not a major problem, but still
Holy essaying, but you get the picture
5/10 for me, do not recommend it
Visually and the idea is cool, but everything else is done MUCH better in other games
But if they change a lot in the next title, I'll try it out because again, the potential is there

This game surprised me a bunch. A honestly expected a cutesy easier Dark Souls style game. But its so much more than that.
Much of the combat system might feel familiar to you if you play a lot of action rpgs, but it does a lot to stand out.
The movement in this game is very fluid. You have a quick jump and airdash that give you a lot of mobility in a fight.
There is a good amount of upgrades as well as ways to customize your character build.
The story is way more compelling then I thought it would be, expected it to be childish, but it does a good job tackling some serious issues. The characters and the humor are really good! Had me laughing a bunch.
Honestly this game is a serious treasue i can't recommend it enough.
I was a little sad hearing that Aggrocrabs wants to focus more on shortform games after the success of Peak, cause i really loved the world building and characters of this game. But i can understand the burnout a game like this could cause for a small dev team.

I'm always telling my friends how great a value indie games are, especially in a world of $70, $80 AAA games, and yet I was still consistently, enormously surprised by just how much video game is inside this video game. I would've happily spent $60+ dollars on this. It's easily one of the most thorough, lovingly crafted game I've played in a while. And as a souls-like? It's a complete victory. Aggro Crab have such a fantastic understanding of what makes a satisfying Dark Souls experience that I have no problem putting this game up on the same shelf in my mind as any Fromsoft game.
Any complaints I might have had about platforming jank or balance issues (I definitely bypassed quite a few late-game bosses by maxing out my MSG stat and mashing spells until I won) I can easily set aside because of just how put-together this game is. It's a real labor of love, and there's such a clear image of what it's meant to be. Please play this game if you haven't. If you like Souls-likes and haven't play it: for the love of god, play it.

Fantastic game, I loved every bit of it. The music, atmosphere, and gameplay are so sick. I really enjoyed all the little jokes and puns on the cartons and shit. Platforming is tight too. Highly recommend it.

Great intro game to the souls-like genre, but fun and difficult enough for genre veterans too. The world feels well built and the combat flows. Love that they have continued to update it too

Hilarious and easy crab souls-like. If you're getting introduced to souls-like games, this is the perfect game to start the genre with and it's actually fun. Sometimes it's a bit challenging but it still doesn't change the fact that the game is fun as hell. It has ocean puns, interesting atmospheres, hard but fun bossfights and so much more. Recommended asf 10/10

Just finished Another Crab’s Treasure and I absolutely loved it! The world was so creative, the combat was surprisingly deep, and the humor made the whole experience unforgettable. It’s such a fresh take on the soulslike genre, and I couldn’t get enough of the underwater exploration and quirky characters. I’m seriously hoping for a sequel:)

A surprisingly good souls-like mixed with some fun platforming elements!
Overall I really enjoyed this game, there are a few mechanics and things I wasn't too keen on, but as a whole it's a really solid game. Not as difficult as a FromSoft souls game, and there are adjustable settings for people who want to make the experience a bit easier. A very charming alternative to the more serious souls games and definitely worth trying out, especially if you like 3D platformers!

A very whimsical (yet still really difficult!) soulslike with a message about capitalism and selfishness. I had so much fun playing this game, and I LOVE the characters and the OST.

Played this game to completion a while back, just came back to play again after the Year of the Crab Update. I've played a good handful of souls-likes, and I'd say I rate this on-par with a lot of the From Software titles - or in other words, great!
What I liked:

This game just oozes style and world building, [strike]just like the ooze that pollutes our oceans[/strike]. It's a nice refresher from a lot of souls-likes, which tend to fall into more of a dark fantasy camp. Which, don't get me wrong, this game has dark undertones as well, but they're complimented by humor, colorful environments, and the creative worldbuilding.

Exploration was fun and rewarding. There's plenty of stuff hidden around, and the bulk of it is useful. The game's skill point currency is tied to crystals, which you get from breaking ones in the world or killing certain enemies (including bosses). I found myself getting a lot passively. Movement is also nice - you don't have stamina, have a grappling hook for zipping around, and can do a sort of hover jump to get a bit of extra distance when jumping.

This game is pretty approachable for a souls-game. Builds are a lot less complex overall. You have 4 stats to allocate points to on level ups (Dark Souls is closer to 10 I think). The skill tree you can probably fill out most of pretty easily depending on how much you explore. Aside for the shell system, equipment is mostly just accessories and linear upgrades. Also, like Going Under (the first game by the devs), this game has a great accessibility system.

Oh yeah, the shell system. After playing Bloodborne, which very much encourages being aggressive, I always wondered what a soulsborne style game would look like if it had a bigger focus on defense. I think this game gets close to being the "defense" souls game because of shells. Shells are essentially shields, each with a special ability and other stats. They can break, so you'll frequently be constantly grabbing new shells scattered around the environment. Equipment breaking is comparable to recent Zelda games like BoTW and ToTK, but unlike those, there's an "insurance" system that can bring back your favorite shells on respawn.

What I'm mixed on:

While there's a lot of shells, I ended up getting the shell that I used for most of the game early on -
the amogus shell
. My build was prioritizing high physical damage, and this shell gave one of the best boosts to that among shells, so I didn't feel inclined to switch it up. There were a lot of other cool shells I found throughout the game, but there wasn't a huge incentive to use them except for when my shell broke. I think if I went with a magic focused build, I would have used more of a variety of shells, but it's hard to say - at least the shell breaking mechanic got me out of my shell.

The story was... fine? The plot itself felt rather slow for the middle section of the game where you're focused on collecting MacGuffins. I did like the characters and writing overall though.

What I didn't like:

The game felt just a tad too long. I'm not sure what would have helped though, since I liked most of the environments. Maybe I just needed a break point during one of the final areas. Coming back for the Year of the Crab update, I just rushed into NG+ to get the last achievements, and still kind of felt burnt out (though, maybe that's just because I was doing it for the achievements...)

There's a grappling hook move that you can unlock which lets you grapple enemies closer to you. I only ever used it on accident. I think my main issue with it was that it used a consumable resource (which I had a lot of by the end of the game), and I didn't see a particular need to use it. This was probably more of a problem with my playstyle than anything.
Overall, I'd say if you like FromSoftware games, check this out - and if you want to like FromSoftware games, but can't get into them for whatever reason, still give this some though depending on why, since this is a lot more accessible overall.

Another Crab's Treasure is genuinely delightful. Souls-likes are so common now that they really need something to set them apart to stand out and ACT does exactly that with its at first ridiculous setting that evolves into something actually quite poignant as it goes on. Adding in 3D platformer elements to the formula is a fun change of pace too (even if I'm not super thrilled with how jank it can sometimes be).
I will say though, at least for my experience, it took a bit to get into. Until you have some very good or even I'd say necessary upgrades like the parry, combat feels a bit off and stilted. As well, there are some bizarre difficulty spikes that make some areas much more frustrating than I'd expect (looking at you Flotsam Vale and the copious gunk). I stuck with it because of how much praise this got from some people whose taste I trust very much but I worry that others might drop it early on and miss out on what is a really great experience. Aggro Crab really is 2 for 2 so far and I'm excited to see the two smaller games they're working on, no other studios are putting stuff out quite like this.

An extremely inspired game with a banger of a soundtrack and some innovated twists on the Souls-like formula. Lots of funny references throughout the game and the environment in general is awesome.
As far as raw gameplay, it certainly has its imperfections that will leave you frustrated sometimes, but overall plays well and will USUALLY leave you feeling hyped about your successes and understanding about your losses.

Although some of the platforming sections don't have clearly defined ledges, I'm still impressed with the quality of this Souls-like cartoon game. And yes, it almost feels like a Dark Souls game in a ocean environment. The cute humor distinguishes it just enough, though. The level design is challenging and cleverly laid out to reward fans of these 3D adventures. I just wish I had more patience with some of the slower enemies in the game.

An absolutely wonder experience from start to finish! This silly little game has such an amazing soundtrack, character designs, voice cast, level design and combat! It's a wonderful introduction to souls games for those who want to try them out for the first time, and a fun challenge for those who are more experience in the genre! I adore how silly yet poignant the game can be, with it's many easter eggs to the story-driven moments. I highly highly recommend this game for anyone thinking of giving it a go! It's an absolute 10/10

Amazing game. This is a bit of a parody of a genre that is often dark and grim, but does so in a way that doesn't sacrifice the game play or the story for a cheap laugh. The devs clearly care and sprinkle in lots of fun easter eggs for player to find during their adventure.
It has about 20-25 hours worth of game play on the first play through. I'm currently going through NG+ to wrap up my missing achievements. My only complaint is that there isn't more!

This is the most tentative yes review I've ever given. This game does so many things so right, but at least one key thing very wrong, in my opinion. I have a lot of feelings about this game.
What does this crab soulslike do right?
Visuals. I didn't grow up with it, but i've thought about playing one of Spongebob's better received games just to run around in this kind of environment. ACT does that exceptionally. The old ocean reveal literally made my jaw drop. Really special moment in gaming. The waving light cast over everything from refractions through the light above is done perfectly for this game, and all of the coral and character designs look great.
Theme. Just about everywhere you go in this game, the contrast between ocean and man-made pollution is ever-present. The ability to pop on and off shells in a snap is great, and them having different effects based on the shell is really cool.
Characterisation and writing. Very rarely does writing in games make me laugh out loud. This game accomplished that on several occasions, and had me smiling on many others. The characters themselves feel a little two dimensional, but not for a lack of text, I guess they just serve their roles in the story handily and that's that. Firth's snotty sounding voice really rubbed me wrong the entire game though... didn't feel right at all, imo.
Platforming. The level geometry is very well laid out in this game, and it never feels videogamey as much as much as it feels fitting of the theme. Like the objects are mostly where they are because pollution, not because videogame. I like it a lot. Very well done, and some moments of level design and platform puzzling are really great.
Music. Weirdly in this game, the music seems to either be some of the most effective videogame music i've ever heard, or some of the least. Very little in between. On the good side, we have the evocative 'Fort Slacktide?', the restful 'Bottomfeeders' and the very zen 'Moon Snail's Lullaby'. On the bad side, aside from some just being very bland or empty of any inspired melodic content or instrument choices, I can't fathom why many of the mini-bosses, starting with the Royal Shellsplitter, has that rubbish theme that for me wore thin after about one and a half plays.
There may be some other in the good column that i've forgotten - factoring just the good in, this game is easily like a 9/10. There are clearly some incredibly talented people working with this studio, but that doesn't mean there aren't major points of frustration that weigh it down in the core experience of the game.
So... what does this crab soulslike do wrong?
Well, most prominently... the f***ing souls aspect of it. They definitely get the crab part right. But the souls part is severely under-tuned in my opinion. It's like the devs understood we need several means of attack, several builds, corpse-running, varieties of enemies, upgrades, etc...
but they didn't understand why that formula works.
And it's because it takes a very careful hand to balance things like the telegraphing of attacks, the speed at which you attack versus your enemy attacks (how much lead-up into an attack there is an how much wind-down after the strike point), range, how long you're stunned for after an attack lands, how fast an enemy or homing projectile chases you versus how much of a window that creates for you to either attack or escape... the rhythm of this game is all over the f***ing place to say the least.
In Dark Souls, enemies are large, and their strikes and swings have an arc to them that alerts you to where they are going to attack and in about how much time their weapon will cross through the area your body is in. This is the case with enemies that are the same size as your protagonist in those games, in Sekiro, etc. . In this game, enemies are often small (also cute). This means even more so that the telegraphing needs to be extremely clear. But even when they are large... you can be mid attack and often times, halfway through your wind-up, they'll start an attack and theirs will land before yours. Playing through this game in its current state, you sadly just have to tolerate some bullshit in this department. The characteristics of your attack patterns versus the enemies are not balanced well at all in my opinion. And this is integral to... y'know... a soulslike.
Another point off the side of this is boss fights in general. I found the most frustration in these fights, and not in a soulsy 'every time i get a little bit closer' kind of way - sure, you do get a little bit closer, but it's not from learning your enemy's attacks so much as it's learning their bullshit. All souls games have this, but unfortunately ACT has this in droves - *because*, again, of the lack of balance when it comes to attack speed, range, wind-up, wind-down, telegraphing, stun times, etc. . Essentially, this game feels like they made the animations first, and plugged them into a combat system second. I understand this is an indie studio and they only have so much in the way of time and resources to balance these things... but the game really suffers as a result of the fact that its core gameplay has fundamental flaws. The thing at the centre of your game should be the strongest, generally speaking, folks. In the case of ACT I feel like it's the worst aspect of it. *continued in the comments*

I loved every part of this game. Seriously, I had so much fun throughout my entire playthrough. I am a pretty big pre 2020 Nintendo fan and this game feels similar to playing a Zelda game for me! I know this game is similar to Dark Souls, which I haven't played any of those games yet. This souls like stood out to me because it looked fun and colorful! The world looked interesting, the setting and theme as well so it really made me want to explore every little part of the game. I don't usually 100% games, but after I beat the final boss I went back through every world and explored every little part that I could find on my own looking for collectibles. The difficulty felt great, challenging but nothing that made me want to throw my computer out of a window. The game also does not hold you hand which is GREAT, it will try to nudge you in the right direction but not to a point where it doesn't respect your intelligence. I accidentally went to the 3rd area of the game before the 2nd area. After struggling in the 3rd area for a few hours I started to get the feeling that I was not supposed to be there yet because the difficulty spike was so high. Did some more exploring and I found the 2nd area while wondering around. I love when devs let you play the game like that.
The dialogue has to be mentioned because it is so charming. It actually adds to the immersion and world building because it is something all the characters do throughout the entire game. I love all the little replacements of certain words with close sounds ocean related words. I also really enjoyed the story. Not the story I would have expected at all from this game but I was invested the whole time. Also, I really enjoyed the voice acting! Even if it felt silly at times it never brought me out of the world because it doesn't feel out of place. This will definitely be a game I replay every couple of years, just like I do with some of my favorite Zelda games.

This game pretty much wears its souls game inspirations on its sleeve (sometimes not even hiding it), though it has its own identity in how creative it gets with its marine-based world building.
I really liked how diverse the combat system is - You primarily melee your enemies, but you can also cast spells, grapple hook into them, a trinket system, and why the heck not let's also add Sekiro's parry and posture break ⁽ᵗʰᵉ ᵖᵃʳʳʸ ᶦⁿᵖᵘᵗ ᵈᵒᵉˢ ᵗᵃᵏᵉ ᵃ ʷʰᶦˡᵉ ᵍᵉᵗᵗᶦⁿᵍ ᵘˢᵉᵈ ᵗᵒ ⁿᵍˡ⁾. It may seem like all of these mechanics are competing for your attention but I actually found them to blend well, especially with an aggressive playstyle
Something you have to get used to is that defense is always a consumable resource. You wear whatever "shell" you find, use it for guarding, and scuttle to find the next one after it breaks. Each one has its own durability, weight, and special ability to factor into, but the game does lend you options to make sticking to a specific type easier
Half of the game is a lighthearted cartoonish representation filled with jokes and references; some of them are memes so it may be a hit or miss for you (especially as the time goes by)
The other half puts out a profound message that makes you forget it's the same game, starting off seemingly shallow ⁽ʰᵉʰ⁾, but progressively gets more serious as you also get deeper within the ocean
It should also be noted that the game is very forgiving in terms of difficulty, being a lot more lenient than the souls games it looks up to:
- Enemies can kill you in 2-5 hits, but you are given way more opportunities to improve your build
- Savepoints are generously placed so running where you last died won't take longer than 2 minutes
- Shells are pretty much found lying everywhere so you don't need to be too conservative
- You don't need to grind too hard if you aren't losing as much money from dying, though you will have to seek out 'crystals' spread out in the world for your skill tree (you also don't need to find all of them as well)
- There's an option to respawn right next to the boss arena if you die while fighting one
All in all it's a great starter to those who aren't used to the demanding brutal difficulty of soulslike games (with additional assist options to further help), but you can also just ignore levelling up too much if you want to retain the hard difficulty.

"La mer
Qu'on voit danser
Le long des golfes clairs
A des reflets d'argent
La mer
Des reflets changeants
Sous la pluie"
Another Crab's Treasure is a very unique and charming touch on the Soul genre. The level-design and game design play very creatively on the game's main thematics. There is a good variation of the ennemies, the fights are fun and the sensation of progression is solid.
This was my second Soul-like game after Lies of P and I also found the parry mechanics here very satisfying.
Besides, the history is less criptic to follow than for other games of the same genre, while conveying its messages subtly without being too moralistic.
The dialogues are crunchy, with a lot of humor and pop culture references fusing. The characters are funny and quite touching. Most of the OSTs suit well the general atmosphere.
For a second game from those devs, it is really well-rounded.
I warmly recommand this crab adventure under the sea. 🦀

It's a very charming souls-like. It's gotta some wonkyness to it, but its worth checking out.

A very good souls like game with quality combat. Amazing ambience and quality OST made this an unforgettable experience for sure. Decent platforming, fun traversal. Overall just a good game, recommended.

This game is so beautiful it leaves me speechless. The design of the characters, enemies/bosses, and environment is so amazing. The shell variety and designs are really cool as well. An entire helmet as a shell is cool af, and the gun was also a funny addition. I also love how it has little moments of more adult humor and also different references to other games or events. One detail i thought was very funny was in the bottom of the drain area at the end of the game, as you are walking towards the perfect whorl, a sad version of the Crab Rave song is playing in the background which was perfect. This is one of the few games that I feel the need to 100% just because of how great it is and Wish I could play this game for the first time again. Would absolutely recommend.

If you like challenging, souls-like games, you have to play this. Very fun gameplay and nice story.

It's very easy to recommend this game for all people.
ACT has souls mechanics but for veterans and people afraid of souls games, it's A LOT more friendly than your average souls game. Yes, ACT can be difficult and NG+ was game specifically to make the game a lot more difficult. The game overall is challenging but very much possible even for more casual palyers.
There is even a super easy mode in the Assist section.
I liked the main character and his arc overall, the ending is special in a sense, NGL.
But all the others were pretty much forgettable. The music is very good, the amount of armor and interesting and how they play, but there is only one weapon which is very disappointing.
The final areas are too inspired in Elden Ring, I had a bad time navigating there and it was the only moment where the fun part was kept at bay.
Overall, the game is really fun, challenging but fair.

It's clear the game was made with love and I like the vibe, but the game is also quite janky. The camera is often just bad and the platforming is really frustrating.

The gameplay is extremly unpolished which is a major issue for a game aspiring to emulate games like Dark Souls where tightly designed combat is the main draw. And the story is sadly way too lackluster to salvage this game.

its a good game, the ending was a little bleak , but a fun play in story mode, now gonna replay at a harder difficulty.
