The generic, boring, mobile game looking title is a huge misnomer for what is now one of my favorite games of all time. Its so addicting, so clever, so satisfying and infinitely replayable. Cant recommend it highly enough!

Even while playing Clair Obscur and 2 other games up until Nightreign's release yesterday, I have still managed to clock 40 hours in this game. It's incredibly addictive and has satisfying animations accompanying the pixel art. You can pick it up and put it down whenever you have a free moment, but not the time to commit to an hour long session. Easily one of my top 5 replayable roguelites. Very minimal RNG during combat itself, you can usually plan ahead to mitigate many of the challenges that appear. 9/10 times you die, it's your fault. Honestly the single disappointing thing about this game is the fact that the mobile version is tied to a crunchyroll subscription or I would have bought it twice. 100% recommend. And devs/publisher if you're reading this, please let me one time purchase on mobile! Crunchyroll can sod off.

This one took me a few attempts to get into the proper rhythm, but once there, I really appreciated the variety and depth of the seemingly simple gameplay. Lots to unlock, so even failed runs make it feel like your time was well spent. Very creative and unique combat system and a welcome change from the myriad of cookie cutter roguelikes out there.

Great turn based game where you need to plan out every move to defeat overwhelming number of enemies. It can sometimes feel bit unfair with how enemies spawn, but most of the time its pure skill issue. It has great replayability, and if you want to 100% it, it could easily take 100+ hours, depending on how often you fail runs.

A wonderful game. Somehow it managed to pack so much depth into a literal single dimensional board. The interface and iconography are perfect and a banging soundtrack too. If you love Into the Breach, then this is right up your street.

Definitely inspired by slay the spire, but has more complexity in gameplay due to being able to change positions. The learning curve is a bit steep, but once you grab it the game is super fun. Hope it has more content and a sequel in the future.

Good game. I like games that seem simple but really get into depth that I didn't think was going to be there. Shogun Showdown is that. It excels at giving you some basic actions and making you think you are a genius through the way you use them. The enemies all behave in known consistent ways, so if you are crafty you can exploit this and use their attacks offensively against other enemies, while pulling off yours in the same turn. It is definitely worth the price tag and I just love it.

Love this game, from the turn-based combat format to the music. Already won 2 times with 2 of the characters, maybe in some time I'll play it again with the other ones I haven't,

This game scratched an itch I didn't know I had. There is just the right mix of short-term planning and long-term vision, plus some RNG to mix things up, and has a killer soundtrack to boot. I enjoyed putting in my 30 hours to get through the final difficulty, but I don't feel too compelled to keep playing for now. Definitely worth the $15 in my mind.

Somebody in the comments compared this game to the game of chess, and indeed there are some similarities in the thought process. It also shows why in chess it is not allowed to pass the move. There are many times in this game when the best move is to literally do nothing and wait for your opponent to fall into your trap. The first few "days" (levels of difficulty) were rather easy, but towards the last days it became much more interesting and it was a lot of fun to plan several moves ahead. The game is rather short if you don't want to finish it with every character (I finished day 7 with the first character only) so unless you are hooked to the game loop I would recommend it only on discount. Although some people spent tens of hours on it so for those it's worth the full price.

an incredible game, 10/10. shogun showdown scratches the same itch for me as into the breach or tactical breach wizards. the itch for a puzzle which is hard, but where each action is approachable. in this game you have perfect information -- you know what is the enemy's next action, you can learn their behavior patterns, etc. makes you feel good when you figure out how to outplay the ai. the balance is very on point -- it's hard, but not impossible. you can get powerful combos, but it doesn't mean the game is over, etc. every piece fits together nicely. (although there are a couple of weapons which can be made broken... I'm looking at you kunai and crossbow). playing almost feels like a dance. and then, when you figured out how to play the ascension system and stamps (challenges) kick in and the game opens in a new way again. beautiful. my only complaint is that there isn't that much content, compared to some of the other roguelikes. yet I see no easy way to add more without throwing out the balance and while being actually unique and interesting. and, well, I completed everything there is to complete in this game and enjoyed every bit of it, so yk =) would definitely recommend

Very fun game, it can be as fast paced or as slow as you want it. Easy game to speed through once you learn the system or if you want to take it easy and play through it on a second monitor while you do other stuff it fits that role too. Synergizing tiles is also very satisfying. The tile system could use some tuning, and either offering you more variety when letting you select tiles, or letting you disable some pieces from appearing in the pool. In its current state it feels harder to craft builds, and requires you to "go with the flow" a little too much. Hoping the devs tune this a bit in the future because this game has a lot of potential

Fast-paced. Mistakes are always avoidable, really stings when I lose HP because I didn't pay attention. Enough new things to come back to the game reasonably often. Did I say fast-paced?

I found this game in itch in its demo stage and fell in love with it immediately. I really love that I had to plan out how my attacks would go to prevent myself from getting injured and/or dying. (though I fail pretty badly when playing fast) The gameplay is quite well fleshed out and everything is quite easy to understand, especially with the help tool. My main sense of achievement in this game thus far has been the achievements, which challenged me to play the game in different methods, exploring new ways to play the same game. Do try the demo first to see if you enjoy the game.

This is great little roguelike strategy game, with a combat puzzle that is immensely satisfying to overcome. I'm still early doors digging into this, but already had more than my money's worth. Also great art, music and just general style.

Good lord! This is some TOP TIER sauce right here! This game makes me feel like a martial arts expert more than any other game I’ve played. I wouldn’t call it a deck builder really, it’s more about tactics and strategy, but what weapons you pick and how to upgrade them is all up to you, so…sure they look like cards I guess so funk it, good enough! The mechanics are so fun to play with and it’s just satisfying to get a build that makes you feel like Kung Foot Panda or something…a goddamn DRAGON warrior bro! No loss seems unfair; you simply made a risky move, or miscalculated something, but it feels completely on YOU every run. While health isn’t in short supply, one wrong move can end it fast, even with a good build. I’d say it’s one of the harder rougelikes I’ve played in recent memory. Anyway, the games dope, snag it if you wanna smash skulls n shit and ACTUALLY have fun for once in your miserable excuse for a life. Definitely a new favourite for me. Haven’t even gotten close to experiencing the whole game but fuck it! It’s fun, looks great, and the soundtrack POUNDS!!! 10/10

Often, the best move in Shogun Showdown… is to do nothing. If you kill an enemy and there's another one behind it, you can take a hit. Ok, so wait 3 turns for your Arrow cooldown, 1 more to prepare it, just to hit both enemies in one action. Efficient, yes. Satisfying? Like strategically drying paint. (Why does preparing the Arrow take a turn?) I upgraded said Arrow to reset its cooldown if it kills a target with exactly 2 HP. Then I upgraded its damage to 3. Great. Except now almost nothing has 3 HP. So the reset is practically useless. What? With more experience, you can avoid these upgrade traps. But the game punishes experimentation instead of rewarding it. And since the basic kit can often carry you through most of the game, progression feels less like growth and more like a pitfall. I'm upset. This game could be amazing. It looks and feels great. Clean UI, punchy animations, crisp pixel art. The samurai theme slaps. Combos are fun and engaging. But the core loop wears thin. To reach a boss, you grind through 3–5 battle nodes, each with 5 waves. That’s 25 waves of the same enemies. (Can’t wait to do it all again next run...) And the bosses? They boil down to repeating a specific pattern. Once you crack it (move back, wait, strike, wait, swap, turn, repeat) your build barely matters. You could beat them with a basic punch. (There is no punch. There should be a punch.) Shogun Showdown has a rock-solid foundation. It’s almost great. But it’s undercooked. Preparing skills eats a turn (why?), there’s no fallback attack, and most of all, the grind. It’s a game about restraint disguised as action. I wanted to love it. But after 37 minutes, I already don’t want to play more. And that’s a shame.
