This game makes you feel like a genius. Pulling off a combo where you swap places with an enemy so they hit their own teammate, then follow up by backstabbing another one... you just think, "Damn, I'm so clever." But the truth is, that's exactly how the game is designed. The devs are literally encouraging you to play this way. Still, it feels like you've just broken the system—in the best possible way.

A wonderful game. Somehow it managed to pack so much depth into a literal single dimensional board. The interface and iconography are perfect and a banging soundtrack too. If you love Into the Breach, then this is right up your street.

I've owned this game for 2 days. My wife keeps telling me to do something else. She just doesn't understand... I must defeat the Shogun.

It had to grow on me, but now I've played it a bunch and it just really great. For me, similar to Into the Breach but just a little easier to digest with shorter runs.

So, if you like FTL or Into the Breach, you will love this game. It's got the best of both and adds some new things too. Simple rules, deep strategy, and just the right balance of perfect information and unpredictability (vs RGN).

Very fun! Very fun mechanics, simple but deep. It requires thinking ahead in battles and making good decisions about the moves and upgrades you collect. Good music, good visuals. I like it a lot :) It is fun to play for hours or for just a few minutes, and I like that you can play it with just your keyboard if you want to.

banger turn-based combat system. makes me feel like a strategic genius and the world's biggest moron. one minor complaint: when launching (on steam deck, at least), the screen flashes white, which may be dangerous for players with epilepsy.

Perfect blend of the core fantasy with its mechanics. The game gets you thinking from the very first round, with meaningful choices and strategic depth at every turn.

Great game. Kind of feels like a 2D brawler or 3D character action game in turn-based mode. The action queuing system at the core makes it different from nearly anything else you've played.

Good game. I like games that seem simple but really get into depth that I didn't think was going to be there. Shogun Showdown is that. It excels at giving you some basic actions and making you think you are a genius through the way you use them. The enemies all behave in known consistent ways, so if you are crafty you can exploit this and use their attacks offensively against other enemies, while pulling off yours in the same turn. It is definitely worth the price tag and I just love it.

Love this game, from the turn-based combat format to the music. Already won 2 times with 2 of the characters, maybe in some time I'll play it again with the other ones I haven't,

This game scratched an itch I didn't know I had. There is just the right mix of short-term planning and long-term vision, plus some RNG to mix things up, and has a killer soundtrack to boot. I enjoyed putting in my 30 hours to get through the final difficulty, but I don't feel too compelled to keep playing for now. Definitely worth the $15 in my mind.

an incredible game, 10/10. shogun showdown scratches the same itch for me as into the breach or tactical breach wizards. the itch for a puzzle which is hard, but where each action is approachable. in this game you have perfect information -- you know what is the enemy's next action, you can learn their behavior patterns, etc. makes you feel good when you figure out how to outplay the ai. the balance is very on point -- it's hard, but not impossible. you can get powerful combos, but it doesn't mean the game is over, etc. every piece fits together nicely. (although there are a couple of weapons which can be made broken... I'm looking at you kunai and crossbow). playing almost feels like a dance. and then, when you figured out how to play the ascension system and stamps (challenges) kick in and the game opens in a new way again. beautiful. my only complaint is that there isn't that much content, compared to some of the other roguelikes. yet I see no easy way to add more without throwing out the balance and while being actually unique and interesting. and, well, I completed everything there is to complete in this game and enjoyed every bit of it, so yk =) would definitely recommend

Very fun game, it can be as fast paced or as slow as you want it. Easy game to speed through once you learn the system or if you want to take it easy and play through it on a second monitor while you do other stuff it fits that role too. Synergizing tiles is also very satisfying. The tile system could use some tuning, and either offering you more variety when letting you select tiles, or letting you disable some pieces from appearing in the pool. In its current state it feels harder to craft builds, and requires you to "go with the flow" a little too much. Hoping the devs tune this a bit in the future because this game has a lot of potential

Fast-paced. Mistakes are always avoidable, really stings when I lose HP because I didn't pay attention. Enough new things to come back to the game reasonably often. Did I say fast-paced?

I found this game in itch in its demo stage and fell in love with it immediately. I really love that I had to plan out how my attacks would go to prevent myself from getting injured and/or dying. (though I fail pretty badly when playing fast) The gameplay is quite well fleshed out and everything is quite easy to understand, especially with the help tool. My main sense of achievement in this game thus far has been the achievements, which challenged me to play the game in different methods, exploring new ways to play the same game. Do try the demo first to see if you enjoy the game.

This is great little roguelike strategy game, with a combat puzzle that is immensely satisfying to overcome. I'm still early doors digging into this, but already had more than my money's worth. Also great art, music and just general style.

i loved FTL, never got along that well with Into The Breach, but Shogun Showdown is exactly what Into The Breach wasn't. Maybe i'm too old but the whole 2 dimensional board in ITB just was too much for me, this is perfect linear but still very deep combat. I

I know Steam says that I've only played this for 3 hours when I'm reviewing it but when Epic gave it away last year, I played that version of 250+ hours and 100%'d the game. I wanted to buy it on steam so I can support the dev because this game became one of my favorite games ever. I get to 100% the game again now and that's the bonus. I wouldn't really categorize it as a deckbuilder personally. Once the game clicks for you, it almost becomes a dance in a flow state where you're planning your moves based on enemy and positioning. I'd absolutely recommend this. I don't foresee this game getting deleted from my steamdeck even way after completing it.

This is a masterpiece of good game design. The rules are simple and straightforward- but hard to master and infinitely deep. The Pixel Art is functional - but its clear, easy on the yes, conveys just the right atmosphere and lets you forget its frikkin pixel Art. The Soundtrack feels a bit 8 - bit - and yet after dozens of hours, it istn grating. and it achieved the grand goal that every roguelike aspires to, but few even come near- it makes you want to continue, no matter how many times you failed.

A perfect tactical game, planing each move and combo to defeat huge waves of evil ninjas. The enemy has hundreds of troops, and many bosses lot stronger than you. Only your brain will lead you in the path of the Warrior!!! 147% fun

Definitely inspired by slay the spire, but has more complexity in gameplay due to being able to change positions. The learning curve is a bit steep, but once you grab it the game is super fun. Hope it has more content and a sequel in the future.

Somebody in the comments compared this game to the game of chess, and indeed there are some similarities in the thought process. It also shows why in chess it is not allowed to pass the move. There are many times in this game when the best move is to literally do nothing and wait for your opponent to fall into your trap. The first few "days" (levels of difficulty) were rather easy, but towards the last days it became much more interesting and it was a lot of fun to plan several moves ahead. The game is rather short if you don't want to finish it with every character (I finished day 7 with the first character only) so unless you are hooked to the game loop I would recommend it only on discount. Although some people spent tens of hours on it so for those it's worth the full price.
