My initial review on this game was a joke but i wanted to write an actual review because of how much this chapter has impacted me, i consider this the best piece of media i have ever read. This chapter made tears fall from my eyes a grand total of 6 times (not the first time the series has made me cry) because of how i started to feel myself becoming attached to these characters. Towards the end, i asked myself “why? Why do bad and tragic things happen to these wonderful people?” I felt real and raw emotion in this chapter and the arguments between two specific characters hit me like a truck. Higurashi is often intimidating because of its length but holy shit is it worth it. I started to genuinely care about these characters, which made all the tragedies impact me in a way that i never have been before. As for the story, ryukishi’s writing is at its peak here. Questions i had in previous chapters get answered in a way that is subtle but noticeable if you have been paying attention. There are so many moments that make my brain click and cause me to say “OH SHIT!! THATS WHY!!” out loud. Ryukishi does a phenomenal job of immersing the player in the quiet mountain town of Hinamizawa and making the reader genuinely invested in the mystery. Although chapters 5-8 are labeled the “answer arcs” they bring up just as many questions, never leaving the reader 100% sure about what’s happening. I absolutely the uncertain and “wtf is going on” aspects of higurashi and I think that’s what makes the mystery work so well. I love Hinamizawa, it feels like a second home for me. If you havent read higurashi yet, PLEAAASE FOR THE LOVE OF OYASHIRO-SAMA!! READ THIS SHIT ITS SO PEAK!!
